There will be theater performances this Saturday
The councilor for Equality and Diversity, Paz Garretas, and the councilor for Youth and Childhood, Iván López, presented this morning the social theater festival Piel con Piel, which will take place this weekend in Coslada and Madrid.
The eighth edition of the Piel con Piel Festival returns to the scene with a program that emphasizes theater as a space for advocacy and reflection. This initiative has become a benchmark in the field of young creation with a social focus.
In this edition, the municipal areas of Equality and Diversity, Childhood, and Youth join the project with the aim of enhancing its impact on the youth community.
For the councilor for Equality and Diversity, Paz Garretas, «the Piel con Piel festival is a social transformation experience that aims to educate and raise awareness to eradicate violence against women and girls, providing young people with the opportunity to express their concerns.»
On the other hand, the councilor for Youth and Childhood, Iván López, pointed out that «this type of activities aimed at youth that promote equality in all aspects is essential at a time when certain reactionary behaviors regarding fundamental rights such as equality and peaceful coexistence are being normalized.»
Programming
The festival will take place on March 21 and 22, and will feature spaces for dialogue, theatrical performances, and interactions with the public. The first day will take place at the RESAD in Madrid, with a discussion on «Art and Advocacy.»
The second day will be held at the Teatro La Jaramilla de Coslada, where the participating groups will present their stage creations, the result of a process in which they have explored theater as a tool for preventing macho and racist violence.
A space for learning and reflection
Piel con Piel is not only a showcase of young talent, but also represents a space for awareness and education. For months, groups of young people have worked on creating their works from a critical perspective on issues such as human trafficking for sexual exploitation, gender inequality, and racism. This initiative aims to raise awareness and contribute to the construction of a fairer society.
As the event organizers highlight, «in this eighth edition, we want to emphasize the transformative power of art when approached from poetics and sensitivity. Artistic expressions have the ability to touch fibers that other languages cannot reach, and that is especially valuable when it comes to preventing violence so deeply rooted in our society.»

Young creation as a driver of change
Since its inception in 2016, the Piel con Piel project has involved young people from different autonomous communities in a process of learning, awareness, and creation. In this edition, the participation of educational centers and theater groups from Madrid, Barcelona, Toledo, and Navarra reaffirms its scope and relevance.
The experiences of the participants reflect the impact of the project on their lives. For one of them, Marina Lozano, 15 years old, «it was very special to share our conclusions with those of classmates from other schools and their views on the topics we have discussed. Gender, sexuality, vulnerability, and human trafficking for sexual exploitation should be present in classrooms and everyday conversations.»
