Arrival in Coslada after visiting the ARCO Fair and the Havana Biennial
Coinciding with the beginning of the Madrid Art Week, which comes with numerous exhibitions and fairs, apart from ARCO, Coslada brings a sample of a renowned international artist to its residents.
This morning, the Mayor of Coslada, Ángel Viveros, and the Councilor for Culture and Festivities, Emi Escudero, presented it, accompanied by the artist himself, Bernardo Medina, who offered details in person about «Corazone,» his exhibition that the people of Coslada can enjoy these days, along with other actions and proposals from the same Puerto Rican artist. Also present at the presentation on Wednesday was Juan Carlos Moya representing the Entretemintiendo entity and the Maria Porto Art Gallery.
In addition to the exhibition «Corazone,» the Apartamiento Nelken, a new exhibition space in Coslada, inaugurated during the IV Coslada Radial Festival in September 2024, will showcase a temporary installation by BeMe (Bernardo Medina), which was selected by the Havana Biennial of 2024, titled «Shared Horizons.»
This temporary installation aims to unite hearts and horizons with Coslada as the protagonist. The Paseo de la Rambla will also host an interactive sculpture where passersby can freely open up, share their feelings, and interact with others.
About BeMe
BeMe (Bernardo Medina) is a visual artist, painter, and sculptor born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he received his academic training. He has been developing his professional career since 1997 and has participated in numerous art exhibitions and biennials around the world: Miami, New York, Madrid, Beijing, Tokyo, Havana, and Mexico City. His work has become an expression of his own being. He plays with color, textures, and composition, giving meaning to each piece he creates.
BeMe, in collaboration with the Coslada City Council, the Maria Porto Art Gallery, and the Entretemintiendo Cultural Association, has made it possible for the heartbeat of art to arrive with the «Corazone» project.
The Mayor of Coslada, Ángel Viveros, thanked the artist for «your presence here today with us.» He then emphasized «the importance that as a Government team we give to Culture. For us, it is essential that cultural activity in all its forms be accessible to all citizens, and furthermore, the demand is high, and we are committed to a culture of quality.»
In conclusion, the Mayor stated that «apart from the outstanding theater program we have, the commitment to cinema through the Spanish Film Week or the film library, or the activities with local entities, it is evident that this exhibition with an international artist like BeMe is another example of the role that culture plays in our Government’s actions.»
The Councilor for Culture and Festivities, Emi Escudero, stated that «it is a privilege to have a work of art by an artist of this caliber like BeMe in Coslada. We are very proud to have a sibling space with the Havana Biennial and, why not say it, to be a small subsidiary of ARCO.»
In addition to the «Corazone» exhibition at the Apartamiento and the sculpture on Paseo de La Rambla, this same evening of March 5th, at 7:00 p.m., there will be an open and free exhibition action with the author for all residents in the Maria Moreno Room at the Antonio López Cultural Center. In summary, Coslada is filled with hearts through different creative means that the artist has designed for each space. The exhibition will be installed until June 15.
The heart unites and moves society in times of uncertainty, the series of hearts that can be seen in the Maria Moreno room confronts us with certain questions through the iconography generated through the hearts, making abstract thought corporeal, making the emotional soul of the viewer visible, and achieving a dialogue between the work and the public.
The Apartamiento Nelken
This space, inaugurated in September 2024, is the result of the collaboration between the Coslada City Council, through the Department of Culture and Festivities, and the Coslada cultural association Entretemintiendo, which is responsible for selecting the artists.
As the Councilor for Culture explained, «this is another clear example of public-citizen collaboration in the management of cultural projects that enrich our city. Our role is to support with resources, spaces, and technique the viability of projects as interesting as the Apartamiento, to bring contemporary art closer to the residents.»
The entry Presented the exhibition «Corazone» by the international artist Bernardo Medina was first published on the Coslada City Council website.
