The Platform of Affected by Metro Line 7B in San Fernando de Henares has announced a new schedule of protests in this locality as well as in the neighboring Coslada and in Madrid over the coming months to demand that the administrations fulfill their «duty» and provide solutions to the affected individuals.
Currently, dozens of people gathered on Tuesday near the attention office for the affected individuals of the Community of Madrid, located at 20 Argumosa Street in the municipality, under the slogan ‘A dignified home for a dignified home’.
This new protest aims to demand solutions to the situation caused by the expansion works of this suburban line that have been ongoing for over 16 years, with all representatives of the administrations at different levels being held responsible, either directly for the harm caused or for failing to assist the victims.
In statements to Europa Press, Alejandro Escribano, spokesperson for the Platform of Affected by Metro Line 7B, has stated that the protests will continue in the coming months in San Fernando, Coslada, and Madrid.
«We will take to the streets in the coming months to demand that all public administrations fulfill their duty and address this issue,» said Escribano.
Escribano referred to the regional Government as the «main responsible party,» as well as to municipalities and the central Government as administrations with the resources and tools to improve the situation of the affected residents.
SAFETY IN COSLADA
The organizers of Tuesday’s protest also denounced what they see as a lack of information regarding the works carried out in Coslada, also affected by the subway works.
The Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, recently met with the mayor of the town, Ángel Viveros, to discuss the «preventive» actions being taken in the municipality in connection with Metro Line 7B.
It was reported that the Community of Madrid plans to reopen the section between Barrio del Puerto and Hospital del Henares, closed since July 27, «in the summer or in September.»
The Community will grant 100% tax relief on home purchases to those affected by Metro Line 7B
«Safety is guaranteed and it has nothing to do with what happened in San Fernando in the past,» emphasized the minister.
«I appeal for the peace of mind of the residents and social entities, and above all, I ask that they not create unnecessary alarm where there is none because safety is guaranteed 100%,» he added.
However, the affected individuals criticize the regional Government for not sharing «technical data that supports the various interventions that have been ongoing for over three years» in the San Fernando area, which have now extended to Coslada.
ACTION PLAN
The Ministry has been implementing a Comprehensive Action Plan in phases since the start of the works, aimed at consolidating and addressing the damages suffered by the infrastructure.
Simultaneously, the regional Government announced a 100% tax relief on autonomously managed taxes related to home purchases for the affected individuals in San Fernando de Henares.
The Community of Madrid also launched a program of assistance for SMEs and individual entrepreneurs in the commercial and service sectors of the area.
